Chaise Lounge: Creating an Outdoor Paradise With a Festive Mood

If you own a lovely swimming pool, then you must also make sure that you have some ideal furniture that you can relax on after swimming. A chaise lounge is made of plastic and resin material which makes it relatively affordable and perfect to decorate your pool side area with. They come in different colors, shapes and sizes and are built to last.

A chaise lounge is indispensable if you have a swimming pool in your backyard. It isn't just maintaining your pool that should occupy your time but you also need to look into how you can upgrade the look of your outdoor garden, especially the poolside area. You can purchase different types of outdoor furnishings and pool decors to make your place look even more stunning and inviting.

To make your lounge more comfortable, you can also buy cushions. It would be nice if you can have two or more lounges by the pool depending of course, on the size of your swimming pool. Choosing multi colored cushions would make your pool side garden look very colorful and attractive. The best thing is you can choose to buy different colored cushion covers so you can change it every week or if you have a special occasion to celebrate. You can also match your lounges' cushion covers to your party's theme.

There is a new style of chaise lounge furniture that is now out in the market. It is the cabana style double chaise lounger. Hotels and resorts find this style of furniture perfect for outdoor use hence they were first seen in hotels, resorts and spas that are considered high end. They can also be placed in patios and decks. They are perfect for your relaxation purposes. Create your own cabana style lounge where you can spend your weekends with your partner relaxing, enjoying the cool summer breeze or viewing the sunset.

Most chaise lounges are available in three piece sets. You normally get two lounge chairs plus a side table. They are often made of lightweight materials like resin, pvc plastic and aluminum steel. Once you have decided on the type of lounge you want to decorate your pool area, patio, deck or garden with, look for the right color, size and thickness of the cushion that you want to use. If you want a more festive ambience, you can choose to add a splash of colors but the most important thing to consider should be yours and your family's comfort.

Since you will be using your chaise lounge outdoors, you will also have to carefully choose the type of fabric for the cushions. Choose materials that are known to be resistant to molds and mildew. There are also two types of cushion fillings and you need to also bear in mind to weigh their pros and cons. Foam is more comfortable than the poly fillers however, foam absorbs and retains water. Depending on the thickness of the foam, it'll be very hard to dry them. While poly fillers are easier to dry, the downside is, this type of material gets lumpy after some time. So, it is important that you should also look into using a weather resistant and water proof cushion cover.

Lounge Around With Outdoor Chaise Cushions

A chaise lounge is simply French for long chair, and it is what it is: a long chair. It is a couch that has been fashioned to look like a chair that was elongated so that the legs could be raised up. This chaise lounge is the basis of the outdoor lounge chairs where people usually use to lounge around their pools or their patios. Here lies the biggest difference: the chaise lounge is not only shaped like a couch, it is also upholstered like a couch, giving anyone seated on it instant comfort. Outdoor lounge chairs, whether made from iron, plastic or wood, all do not have cushions on them, making them uncomfortable to lounge around. This is where outdoor chaise cushions come in.

Outdoor chaise cushions are the best thing that ever happened to outdoor lounge chairs because many can easily appreciate the comfort they provide. These cushions give the utmost comfort especially when lounging around while reading a book and sipping on some iced tea. Another good thing about these cushions is that some cushions were specially made to be placed on the pool side, so that after a quick lap, you can put on your shades and catch some rays while comfortably lying on the cushion without worry of moisture destroying it.

These cushions differ from one lounge chair to another, so before buying outdoor chaise cushions, you need to keep in mind that each chair is different, and there is no single fitting for all chaise cushions. There are cushions that have round corners, and there are those that come with squared corners. Some makers even make a variety of styles, such as the channeled, the quilted, the stitched and the plain, which can all be done in relation to whether your lounge chair has one break, two breaks, and even three. Some can even do custom outdoor chaise cushions for those specially made outdoor lounge chairs.

The chaise lounge and the great amounts of comfort it can give might be for the living room or the den, but the outdoor lounge chair can easily be comfortable too with the help of outdoor chaise cushions. Having different shapes and sizes, many chaise cushions have reached the level of comfort that a chaise lounge can give, and some have even surpassed it. The best thing about outdoor lounge chairs with is that the cushions were made to withstand extreme weather conditions such as heat and rain, making them last longer as compared to any other outdoor cushion.

The Chaise Lounge

Looking for resort luxury at home? Then consider a chaise lounge.

Basically a chaise lounge, lounger, or steamer, is a long recliner chair designed for the outdoor patio entertaining area. Coming from the French phrase meaning "long chair", also known as lounger or recliner. It is a classic style chair that offers a new class and comfort for warm summer days by the pool or lazy hours spent on the deck or patio.

The luxury of a chaise lounge can come in many shapes and sizes. Loungers come in a variety of styles and materials and are suited for a variety of entertainment situations.

Coming in timber or resin, the chaise lounge can come as its own single recliner unit or can be matched with other pieces including tables and settee chairs. The open slat style allows your skin to breathe as you take in the midday sun and the optional side table conveniently houses your refreshments, radio, sunglasses and novel. Similarly, the 3 or 4 recline positions allow you to absorb the sun at exactly the right angle when the sun moves throughout the day.

Irrespective of the build, chaise lounges are made to protect against the sun and other weather elements. Generally a lounger has multiple reclining positions, folds easily for storage and have built-in wheels for mobility. Wooden chaise lounges usually come in kit form, but are simple to construct.

A decorators dream, the chaise lounge can be enhanced with cushions in a myriad of styles and fabrics. This allows you to change the look of your patio area according to the season or indeed the event, for little cost. Match your recliner cushions with your flower bed during spring; add vibrant color for summer or even theme with your company logo colors for a work related cocktail party.

Now for the nitty gritty ... How much will a chaise lounge cost? You may be surprised to learn that luxury doesn't have to be expensive. It is quite possible to find a recliner made of prestigious wood, such as cedar, for around $150. However, some of the less expensive models may be prone to slacking, due to the slats being made from thin pieces of wood. This could cause problems if you are a little on the heavy side. Cushions vary greatly, almost as much as the loungers themselves. Prices range from $30 up to several hundred.

A quality teak model with wheels, hidden tray and grade A workmanship can cost $500-600 upwards. Less expensive models are available, but all because teak is the chosen material, it doesn't mean to say it is top quality. Thickness of the wood used, hardware, fixtures, warranty and guarantees are all things to look out for.

For true elegance, craftsmanship build wrought iron loungers have no equal. More expensive than wooden units, they offer a real touch of class. Make sure that any wrought iron piece you buy is rust proof. You'll want wheels to, as they can be quite heavy. Prices usually start at around $500-$600, although you will be able to find cheaper models.

A lacquer coated resin or recycled plastic outdoor chaise lounge will give an elegant look to any pool and patio area. Usually will transport wheels, 3-5 reclining positions, a top quality item will cost anywhere from $250 upwards. These are not to be confused with the items you can find at your local supermarket. So in summary you can find a decent patio lounger for around $150 and for that extra touch of luxury and quality prices can even reach $2000.

The chaise lounge; simply delightful!

Outdoor Luxury - The Chaise Lounge

Since the early 1960's the outdoor chaise lounge has been available. However, the options and versions today are much more esthetically pleasing that that of the earlier days. Today's versions can be customized from the material they are made from, to the chaise cushions you choose to put on them. You can get your chaise lounge in wood, metal, resin, and many other types of weather friendly materials. Some people have these outdoor chaises mostly for looks and when you fit down in them you find they are not as comfortable as they look. In these cases, people end up not using their lounges and they become just for show.

The outdoor chaise is very affordable and you are sure to find the perfect one to fit your needs. Even if your backyard is full of crazy rambunctious kids, there is a chaise lounge for you. The kid friendly chaise is made out of white resin and is one of the easier materials to clean! You can usually simply wipe it off with a wet rag, but if you have heavy duty dirt you may need to spray it down with an outdoor hose. There is no better way to enjoy your patio or backyard then adding an outdoor chaise lounge. It not only exude class and luxury, but it helps you relax while you are reading a book or even watching your kids or grandkids play. You can also choose whether or not you want your chaise lounge to be permanent fixtures in your backyard or if you want it to be portable. Most chaises are foldable and are easily taken to sporting events, camping trips, and other outdoor outings. But for those of us who want to create a more permanent sitting area, you are also taken care of.

If you choose to have your outdoor chaise lounge permanent this doesn't necessarily mean it's bolted or sealed to your patio or ground. These versions are usually just heavier and made with different bases than that of the portable versions. These options will most likely have wheels or thick legs to guarantee they stay put in case of high winds of crazy weather. If you choose you can have your chaise mounted in the cement or pounded into the ground, but they are usually heavy enough to stay put. Whichever option you choose be sure to do some thorough shopping before buying.

Chaise Lounge - Old Style Elegance With Modern Designs

Chaise lounge, mention those two words and it conjures up images of Cleopatra, or ladies from the medieval times laying back and being fanned to stay cool but most people will associate this piece of furniture with the French. These two words are actually French and should be spelt Chaise Longue meaning long chair.

This piece of furniture is now having a renaissance of its own again and can be found in a lot of homes. They are no longer restricted to Hollywood movies or as the couch used in a psychiatrist office. The Chaise lounge is now finding its way back into a lot of homes. The name was changed when it became incorporated into the furniture making industry in the United States.

Unlike a normal sofa this furniture has its back along the width of the chair as apposed to the length of the chair as in a regular sofa. Normally made for a single persons use having the backrest on the width it allows the user to rest their legs on the full length of the rest of the lounger. A chaise lounge treads the thin line between a regular couch and an extended club chair. A lot of today's modern designs for the chaise lounge actually take their inspiration from the traditional club chair. They will often work in the same sort of fashion of a club chair and an ottoman combination, with the convenience of being manufactured in one single piece.

The furniture's height of popularity was during the 1800 and 1900s. As the population grew and started to move out into the suburbs this piece of furniture took on a new look being stripped down and were often seen on people's patios. Because they are so comfortable and great for relaxing in it was the logical next step for this type of furniture, the outdoors chaise lounge.

In today's hectic world it is no wonder that it is now growing in popularity again. An upholstered one makes an ideal choice for a conservatory or even an office space but is most frequently found in the bedroom where they make it an excellent place in which to escape for a few hours during the day and relax with a good book or even to catch an afternoon nap.

The outdoors one is very popular and often found on patios, decks or around a pool. This type is normally made from wood, plastic, canvas or the more fashionable material wicker. The design of the chaise lounge is well suited for sun-bathing whilst still being able to read a book, or for taking an afternoon siesta. Because of its growing popularity you can even find a chaise lounge that can seat two people at the same time. It doesn't seem to matter where you would want to site a chaise lounge in your home, whether it's a formal setting or the more relaxed atmosphere of your patio or deck there's a style of chaise lounge to suit any space.

Furniture - When to Use a Chaise Lounge

In order to be in a position to understand when to use a chaise lounge, it would be a great idea to first acquaint ourselves with what such a chaise lounge is, in the first place. As it turns, the chaise lounge is simply a chair whose sitting area is extended to accommodate 'the sitter's' legs. So unlike a usual lounge, where the legs of the person sitting on dangle to the ground, on the chaise lounge, the legs remain on the lounge; making it - in essence - something of a cross between a lounge and a bed.

What the extension of the chaise recline to accommodate the legs does is to make it the ultimate lounge for relaxation. Seeing that the typical chaise lounge will tend to be very highly upholstered, lying on top it (in a situation where your whole body is on top of it) creates a feeling that you are no longer subject to 'gravity.' You are just hanging up there, and it is an extremely exhilarating experience. And because of all this, many people who get to a feel of the 'chaise lounge experience' desire to have such lounges for use in their own houses.

Yet, for all its goodness, the chaise recline is not suitable for use in all kinds of settings. Indeed, there are some situations where the usage of the chaise lounge would be outright inappropriate. But being pragmatists, we will not focus on where the chaise lounge should not be used, but rather where the use of chaise recline would be appropriate. Our calculation here is that you would know that if the use of a chaise lounge in situation A is recommended, then it would obviously not be recommended in situation B, where situation B is the exact opposite of situation A.

Ideally, the chaise seat should only be used where there is adequate space to comfortably accommodate it. Thanks to the extension for legs it comes with, the typical chaise recline will tend to consume considerably more space than the typical lounge. Therefore although you may desire to have a chaise seat, if your living room is too small, you would be well advised not to take it on. Ideally, pieces of furniture like the chaise lounge are best used in the kinds of houses where the lounge is a hall's size. But if all you have is a 'crib' it would be inappropriate to try to squeeze a chaise recline in there.

The chaise seat is best used in relaxation rooms, as opposed to, for instance, boardrooms. Remember, it -is the type of a lounge you get on when you want to relax, not the type of a lounge you get on when you want to think! Where you want to create an image of opulence, the chaise seat would be ideal for you. Conversely, when you want to create an image of frugality, the chaise recline may not be ideal for you, as it will end up creating the exact opposite of the message you want to convey through your furniture.

The typical chaise recline may be slightly expensive. For that reason, you will only use it if it is something you can comfortably afford. Remember, if you end up ruining your finances in a bid to acquire it, you may not really enjoy it. You would resent it.

Chaise Lounge - Classic Comfort for Any Room

A chaise lounge or to give it its proper French name "chaise longue" is the ideal piece of furniture for either your patio, deck, pool area or more likely an indoor setting like the bedroom or sitting room. A fully upholstered lounger is a very plush and comfortable item of furniture adding that touch of royalty to your bedroom. Outdoor loungers are usually not so heavily upholstered because of their setting but with some cushioning can be just as comfortable as their indoor counter-parts.

This item of furniture can really take the edge off a tough day at the office or if you have been toiling in the garden. Chaise lounges are available in a multitude of designs, styles and colors which makes finding one that will fit in with your surroundings an easy task. The unique design of a chaise lounge makes it an extremely comfortable place to kick back and unwind and whether your choice is for inside the home or outside they are a very functional addition.

The outdoor loungers come in a variety of different finishes such as; wood, metal, plastic, or the all time favorite wicker. The many colors you can choose from makes it very easy to get a chaise lounge that will blend in with its surroundings.

The classic indoor chaise lounge screams French decadence with its flowing lines and hardly a straight line or ninety degree angle in sight. French furniture makers are well renowned for their artistic flair and of being able to bring a touch of romance to their furniture and this is nowhere more obvious than in the classic chaise lounge. So if you're looking for a classy but somehow romantic piece of furniture whether for the bedroom, sitting room, or even your study the chaise lounge is your only choice, its like buying two pieces of furniture in one. Firstly there's the comfort, the long chair allows you to stretch out, lie down or sit virtually in any position, so it's great for reading a book or for taking an afternoon nap. Secondly it's extremely good looks make it very difficult for an ordinary chair or sofa to match its plush, smooth lines.

This French inspired romantic piece of fine furniture adds a feeling of warmth to a sitting room and can be dressed up with just a few small scatter cushions. One thing that seems to surprise a lot of people is that today's chaise lounge has such a wide range from which to choose from. The first image that comes to mind for most people is something that's all white and tinged with gold edging, whilst this style is still available and would fit in comfortably with a formal living room; the modern and contemporary designs with their clean looking sleek designs are proving to be very popular. They come with a complete line of fabrics to choose from that will add a modern feel to a very classic design.

The chaise lounge should actually come with a warning; whilst most people will buy one for their good looks and classy appearance they will tend to make you spend a lot more time lounging than actually doing boring housework.

Ab Lounge 2 Review - Disappointing Fat Loss Results From an Otherwise Cool Device

As a personal trainer in Los Angeles, I've come across a lot of interesting work-out gadgets. One that a client recently introduced me to was the Ab Lounge 2. If you're thinking about purchasing one, I suggest you read this article first. It explains, in my professional opinion, why the device is a cool invention but not well-suited for what most people buy it for -- fat loss.

The Ab Lounge 2 is designed like an outdoor chair that will replicate a tight crunching motion. It's meant to keep you in a comfortable position so that you can focus specifically on stimulating your abdominal muscles. Its versatility also allows you to do perform its motions literally anywhere.

First off, I have to admit that this is a cool ab strengthening device. You could keep this anywhere in your house, since it doubles as a regular ol' chair, and crunch away when you feel like it. As a personal trainer, I love to see anything that inspires people to exercise.

The only issue is that most people buy the Ab Lounge for fat loss, hoping to get rid of their belly fat, which is not what it's designed to do. This device, used properly, will help strengthen your abs, but does very little to reduce the fat around your waist. That would be "spot reduction," which is a fitness myth. The body does not get rid of fat in one area through simply building up the muscles surrounding that fat. This is a sad reality many of my clients faced before finding a different plan.

As a way to strengthen your abs, the Ab Lounge 2 is a cool device, but for fat loss, it likely won't deliver the results you expect. As a solution, what I prescribe to clients looking to lose their belly flab is a simple regimen of walking sessions and eating the perfect diet. And so far, I've had a 100% success rate with this basic plan.

How to Use the Ab Lounge XL

The Ab Lounge XL provides assistance in performing one of the most challenging abdominal exercises; the jackknife. The jackknife involves simultaneous flexion of both the upper and lower torso. There are a number of factors that influence one's ability to perform this exercise. These include:

Weak Core and Abdominal Muscles: The jackknife requires an enormous amount of abdominal and core strength.
Leg to Torso Proportion: Since the lower or upper body are flexing simultaneously, people with either long torsos or long legs may have trouble balancing.
Tight Hip Flexors: Your hip flexors are the strong ligaments that connect your thighs to your pelvis. If they are tight, it will be hard to flex your legs into the jackknife.
Stiff Upper Torso: In general, the jackknife is performed without neck support, so if your neck or upper back is tense, this exercise can be painful.

Although the Ab Lounge XL can assist in performing the jackknife and its many variations, the jury is still out about the effectiveness of the machine. However, if it gets people exercising, something is better than nothing. Here are some of the basic exercises that can be performed on the Ab Lounge XL.

The Ab Lounge XL Basic Jackknife

Lie on the machine and grasp the overhead handles.
Place your feet on the foot rest.
Inhale to prepare
As you exhale, draw your navel towards your spine, and slowly curl your upper and lower body towards each other.
Pause at the top, and take a small breath in, without letting your belly expand!
Exhale, and slowly return.

You can also work your obliques on the Ab Lounge XL by dropping your legs to one side at a 45 degree angle, and performing the same movement pattern.

The breathing pattern we've suggested for this exercise probably seems a bit odd. However, the return movement on any type of abdominal curl is the movement that gets people into trouble. During this movement, some people have a tendency to "pop" their ribs forward, which creates an arch in the back. Over time, this will develop an incorrect postural alignment, which can actually make your stomach look bigger!

For example, think about people you know who have a "sway back." No imagine their stomachs. They rarely look flat. So what does breathing have to do with it? A lot, actually. When you inhale, your diaphragm fills up with air, which causes your stomach to expand. Think of a balloon. If you wanted to inflate the balloon, you would fill it up with air, but if you wanted to flatten the balloon, you would let the air out. Your abdominal muscles work the same way. As you inhale, your belly expands, and as you exhale, your deep core muscles press against the diaphragm to expel the air, thereby flattening your belly. If you are inhaling on the return movement of the Ab Lounge XL jackknife, you are only getting the benefits of the curling movement. At best, you are only getting half the benefits of the exercise. At worst, since your abdominal muscles support your back, by keeping them flaccid, you may be causing lower back damage.

If you have not been exercising, remember to check with your doctor before purchasing and using new equipment.

You Can Choose a Great Teak Lounge Chair!

If you are a lover of the out-of-doors you no doubt like to just sit at times, relax and contemplate in the stillness -- and there's nothing better for just sitting and thinking than a good teak lounge chair. Over time, your lounge chair will become almost a best friend to you -- providing comfort, strength and stability in this hectic world of ours.

One type of Teak lounge chair that you will see advertised more than any other is a steamer chair. These chairs were first used on board ocean-going steam liners. People would use these chairs to get some sunshine and warmth while sitting on board the deck of these ships. Steamer lounge chairs have a "slotted" design which maximizes comfort but without adding unnecessary weight.

Steamer chairs typically include a section that pulls out or slides out from underneath the seat to provide ample leg rest. These types of chairs are wonderful to keep near your pool or Jacuzzi as well, as teak wood is naturally resistant to the effects of wood rot.

A gorgeous set of teak lounge chairs can be purchased from the Strathwood company. This company also makes other types of teak furniture such as bar tables, dining room tables and chairs etc. Currently you can purchase a set of two lounge armchairs for around $100 retail -- and that's a tremendous value in teak furniture!

On the more unusual side, you might want to look into purchasing a lounge chair built for two. This double chase lounge chair is made of 100% teak wood and is roomy enough to comfortably fit two average-sized adults lying next to each other. This lounge chair comes complete with a set of padded cushions, and also features a small table that slides out from underneath, to provide you with a place to hold a radio or your favorite beverage.

I don't know if you are like me, but when I am relaxing I like to be really comfortable -- and this means a chair that is roomy enough (wide enough!) and which is also equipped with really thick, comfy cushions. Often times chairs with really thin cushions will seem comfortable at first, but will become really uncomfortable after sitting in them for a while. I recommend that whenever possible you purchase a lounge chair with the thickest possible cushion that is available for them. And as you will be using your teak lounge chair outdoors (primarily) make sure that the cushioned fabric and filling material is waterproof, in case you accidentally leave it outside in the rain.

One of the downsides of traditional teak lounge chairs is that they tend to be lightweight, portable folding chairs. Is while this has its advantages, you might want to give some consideration to purchasing a non-folding chair for your outdoor recreations. The advantage of these chairs is that, not being folding chairs, they can be constructed with thicker pieces of wood which will be less likely to break or splinter, and which will provide more secure support for someone who is heavier.

Speaking of heavier, more durable outdoor furniture -- perhaps the granddaddy of them all is the Adirondack chair. Originally designed to be useful to people living in mountainous regions, you can purchase teak furniture in an Adirondack style -- and some designs even include a foot rest. Adirondack-style chairs tend to be well-built, but they are generally quite heavy -- not the kind of chair that you would want to move around very often. Give me my Adirondack chair with some cushions, a good book and a drink to keep me cool and I'm set for the afternoon!

And while they are not strictly a lounge chair, I think I should also mention another great chair that you can use out of doors: a rocking chair. Many people would not think of using a rocking chair outside, and yet in rural areas they are very common -- you will see them on many porches and in many backyards. And yes, you can purchase rocking chairs made from teak wood just like many other chair designs. A teak rocking chair is great for just whiling away the hours outdoors -- and if you've got kids, you'll find that they just can't resist rocking in a rocking chair.

Well, these are just some of my thoughts and recommendations on choosing -- and enjoying -- a lounge chair outside. I hope you found it interesting and informative, and that like me, you too will come to enjoy the simple pleasures of sitting outside.
